Dodge the drama and become that player everyone wants in their group with the Drama Mamas. Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are real-life mamas and experienced WoW players — and just as we don’t want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your server. We’re taking your questions at DramaMamas@WoW.com.

Most of the troubled souls who write in to Drama Mamas already know the steps they should take to free themselves from their predicaments. They simply want to hear their conscience speak aloud, to come face to face with the writing on the wall. Things are no different this week for lovelorn correspondent A Troubled Tank. Although his plea for help is more eloquent than most, his sticky situation (and subsequent avoidance of the issues he lays out with clarity and precision) is all too familiar.

Dearest and Revered Mamas of the Drama, This warrior finds himself in the prickliest of predicaments. On the server Earth, my main is a pretty normal dude; what is relevant is that he is in a relationship. My alt in Azeroth is getting him into trouble, however.

Viewed as objectively as possible, my main relationship is a good one. However, it leaves me feeling unsatisfied. The problems of the relationship, which do not bear additional mentioning, are primarily external to the relationship. That is, if whoever runs the Earth server would nerf various things, it would be rather good. However, context and circumstance delegate it to a troublesome bore.

Enter my alt’s crush on a guildie. She is beautiful, charming, funny, intelligent and never bugs, scolds or annoys me. O would that she would reside in my zone, or one neighbouring mine! Yet alas, she resides on a foreign coast. She who is of relationship ilevel 277 is beyond my reach. Nonetheless, I daresay she adores me. Though as a warrior my Intellect is low, even I can tell she is my perfect match.

What’s worse, my guildie crush is unaware that I am seeing someone. Our friendship started innocently enough, but soon it was clear that we fit like a tank and a healer. My Earth server girlfriend and I are like two DPS, laboring in a 30-minute queue. My alt’s heart’s desire completes my set bonus.

Each day WoW.com will take you through all the blue posts and other Blizzard news from around the internet. From Ghostcrawler’s latest posts to the lowdown on StarCraft II and Diablo III, we’ll keep you informed.

Looks like Ghostcrawler was off today, probably fine-tuning his gin-to-coffee ratio (I think 3:1 is the best).

Welcome to Scattered Shots, written by Frostheim of Warcraft Hunters Union and the Hunting Party Podcast. Each week Frostheim uses logic and science mixed with a few mugs of Dwarven Stout to look deep into the Hunter class. Got hunter questions? Feel free to email Frostheim.

Patch 3.3.3 has hit, bringing some surprises with it. We got the BM buffs we knew about, but we were also slipped some changes that weren’t on the PTR. In addition to some truly odd things, Ghostcrawler put on his santa suit and slipped in some nice presents for all the good hunters of the world.

Unfortunately some of the patch notes are a bit vague, or they’re worded very poorly (in one case implying the exact opposite of what the change really was). But after a bit of legwork and testing, it looks like most of these changes are good things for us.

Join me after the cut as we take a look at the more notable patch 3.3.3 hunter changes.

While blue posters were quite lively today, most of it was casual conversation between CMs and players. There were a few exceptions, such as Ghostcrawler’s always-interesting discussions and a web maintenance warning for tomorrow evening. Read on!

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. They shot Matthew Rossi with a dart while he was eating a mysterious ham sandwich provided by Holisky, and the last thing he remembers is hearing something about plans coming together. Now he must answer your questions if he ever hopes to escape.

These are my cats. They’re named after Alpha Flight characters, not major WoW lore figures, but the little one (her name is Puck) used to heal Karazhan for me when I was on my resto shaman. No, seriously. She loved the Earth Shield animation, and so I would go on follow, target the tank, and go take a bio or get a drink and she would repeatedly smash her paw down on my keyboard, triggering Earth Shield and Chain Heal (next button over). I once stopped to have a conversation with my wife and came back to find Attumen dead and folks complimenting me on my healing. Since Gray keeps dropping the puppy bomb, I felt they deserved equal representation.

Tina asked:

“Is there anything Blizzard can do to stop tanks afking (not moving or doing anything) after joining the random dungeon finder groups, and thereby griefing other players?

At present, not much more than they’ve done. They’ve made various changes to the Dungeon Finder in patch 3.3.3 but there still is a delay on vote kicking a player who is in the run and not disconnected, so any player (not just a tank) can decide to just squat in a group and do nothing for whatever reason, whether to grief the run or in hopes that they’ll try and four man it and get him free emblems for no work. Vote kicking is still basically the only real recourse.

We know Blizzard is keeping track of vote kicks and other stats for LFD now, though, so who knows what the future will bring?

The best change in the new mini-patch that came today:

Hunters now display ranged weapons on the character select screen.

No paladin changes to talk about. The new auction interface is pretty good. Don’t forget to convert all your old Battleground Marks to Honor.

In a perfect world, patch day would be a day when we all get to sit around and do nothing as perfect new content is added to our already expansive world. The reality of the situation is that we live in a harsh, untamed and annoying world filled with Lua errors and user interface masochism. Here are a few quick tips for surviving patch day when it comes to your addons and user interface.

  • Step 0 – See if any of your addons have a “day of” update. Mod and addon creators have been working with PTR code to, hopefully, make sure their addons come ready to roll with Patch 3.3.3.
  • Step 1 – Enable out of date addons. For minor content patches, most of the code should still be perfectly usable. Many addons will have updates available day one, but to hit the ground running, you’ll want to load your out of date addons if an update isn’t available.
  • Step 2 – Disable any addons giving you Lua errors and make note of those disabled. If addons are still giving you Lua errors that are affecting your gameplay, disable those addons so they do not interact poorly with other code. Check for updates when you can, and remember to re-enable any previously disabled addons.
  • Step 3 – Update DBM/BigWigs/DeusVox. Your raid leaders will thank you. This is especially important for raids that run on Tuesday, so update your raid warning addons early. Don’t be that guy. You know who that guy is.
  • Step 4 – /framestack. An incredibly powerful diagnostic tool is the /framestack command. Typing in this command will bring up an interface window that will display information on any addon or user interface module that the mouse pointer is hovering over. Use /framestack to diagnose user interface problems or to figure out what addon is controlling what portion of your UI. You will save yourself a lot of headaches remembering what the name of the addon was that you use to track your buffs, or what addons are hovering over other, possibly hidden, modules.

There you have it. A quick and easy checklist to, hopefully, get you going on patch day without too much hassle. Remember to keep your most important addons up to date, and keep your profiles saved. Happy patch day!

There’s a handful of blue posts, including some from Ghostcrawler; but they were relatively quiet today. Expect a lot more tomorrow and the rest of this week as patch 3.3.3 spends some time on the live servers.

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.

I saw this on Digg this morning, and it immediately took the place of the next disgusting animal I was going to force you all to look at. I’m putting it up on WoW.com in hopes that all these people who think they can troll actually learn something — realize that their great great great great great grandfather knew how to troll ten times better then they can.

Steven asked…

“Why is there the hybrid tax? Don’t hybrids that use abilities other than their dps abilities lose dps when doing so, thus imposing their own sort of hybrid tax?”
